Why I’m successful in music industry – Simi

"There are women who have worked hard to challenge the status quo. So, I won’t solely credit myself for my success because I also benefited from the groundwork laid by other women."

Nigerian singer, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has revealed the reason for her success.

The mother of one has recognized the significant role played by female artists who paved the way before her in the music industry. She acknowledges their sacrifices and dedication, which shattered norms and created opportunities for other women to excel in what has traditionally been a male-dominated field.

In a recent discussion with African Folder, Simi emphasized the impact of these trailblazing women, stating, “There are women who have worked hard to challenge the status quo. So, I won’t solely credit myself for my success because I also benefited from the groundwork laid by other women.”

Simi initially embarked on her music career in gospel music before transitioning to secular music in 2014.

In a previous interview, she cited the reason for her switch from gospel music, citing its lack of financial viability as a significant factor.
