Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared that he enjoys special treatment worldwide due to his celebrity status.
In a recent interview with Kiss Fresh London, Davido revealed that he receives invitations to dine with presidents in nearly every country he visits, except for the United States and the United Kingdom. He mentioned that his global fanbase includes influential figures, such as the World Bank president and leaders of powerful nations.
“Every country we go to, the President invites us for dinner, except in London and the U.S.,” he said. “It’s amazing to leave Nigeria and be welcomed like a president elsewhere, which reflects the impact Nigeria is making globally through music and culture.”
Davido emphasized that he feels most respected in Africa, which is why he prefers touring on the continent over his tours in Europe and the U.S., even though the latter is more lucrative. He shared that his Jamaican collaborator, YG Marley, was stunned by the level of admiration Davido received from fans during Marley’s recent visit to Nigeria for the video shoot of their hit song Awuke.
