2023 FIFA Women's world cup: Norway, Switzerland battle out draw

On Tuesday, Switzerland held Norway to a 0-0 draw at Waikato Stadium in FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, and Norway is still awaiting their first win.

After losing to New Zealand in their opening game, the Norwegians were looking to bounce back but could find no way past Swiss goalkeeper Gaelle Thalmann.

Norway lost Ada Hegerberg just before kick-off and her replacement Sophie Roman Haug forced a smart stop out of Thalmann midway through the first half following her close-range header.

Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic fired wide for the Swiss before Norway ramped up the intensity after half-time, with Maren Mjelde heading straight at Thalmann.

Thalmann beat away Haug’s fierce drive and made an excellent double save to deny Norway’s Caroline Graham Hansen and Frida Maanum.

Norway must now beat the Philippines in their final Group A game to have any chance of progressing, while Switzerland know a draw against New Zealand will secure their last-16 spot.
