To address the rising wave of kidnappings and killings by bandits in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has declared his administration’s commitment to making it unbearable for criminal elements to operate within the region. Wike made this announcement during a town hall meeting held with the Bwari area council chairman, royal fathers, and residents of Bwari in the Bwari area council.
President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive to him and all service chiefs to explore all necessary means to bring an end to the spate of kidnappings and killings in Bwari and other areas within the FCT.
Wike emphasized that the President has approved the provision of all essential tools and logistics required by security operatives to combat insecurity in the FCT, leaving no room for excuses by the security forces.
During the meeting, Wike assured residents that they would witness drastic changes in the security situation in the coming days. He appealed to the community to provide necessary support to security operatives, urging them to collaborate effectively to restore the region’s safety and security.
Wike further cautioned residents against using radio or social media platforms to discuss bandit operations or donations for victims, stating that such actions only serve to fuel the criminal activities and promote further operations. The Minister emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing the security challenges plaguing the FCT.
The FCT has witnessed a surge in kidnapping incidents, with the most recent case involving the abduction of six sisters from their residence at Zuma 1 in the Bwari area council on January 5. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N600 million, sparking public outcry. The police authorities have vowed to secure the release of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
