Tinubu swears in Ministers

President Bola Tinubu will swear in seven new ministers on Monday, following a recent cabinet change.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s senior assistant for information and strategy, acknowledged the situation in a post on his X page on Sunday.

The ceremony is slated to take place in the council chamber of the state house in Abuja.

Onanuga wrote:

“President Bola Tinubu will swear in the new seven ministers tomorrow Monday.”

“The Senate cleared the ministers last week.”

On October 25, Tinubu dismissed five ministers, moved ten to new ministries, and nominated seven new ministers to the Senate for approval.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the nominations to a vote on Wednesday, and they were confirmed.

The confirmed nominees are:

Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.

Others are Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Trade and Investment; and Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education.

During the confirmation hearing, the appointees explained how they intend to use their positions for the benefit of Nigerians.

Yilwatda stated that the federal government requires geographical data in order to effectively channel resources to the disadvantaged.

“If there is no geospatial data of poor people you do not know how many people to reach in your community or senatorial district,” he said.

On his part, Dingyadi said he has what it takes to negotiate with organised labour.

“What is important is that we try to carry them along. I want to say I am ready and willing to take everybody along,” Dingyadi said.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu said she would work to ensure that Nigerian mission buildings abroad are in good condition.

“It is true that because of funding most ambassadors are constrained to renovate mission buildings,” she said.

Akpabio said he was impressed by the quality of the nominations, saying “I think Mr President took his time in selecting these ministers.”
