The board of trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in the Supreme Court.
The BoT said the apex court will address the errors they believe exist in the judgment delivered by the presidential election petitions tribunal.
This stance of the PDP BoT was conveyed through a communique issued at the conclusion of a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate President and the Chairman of the PDP BoT said this in a communique.
The tribunal had dismissed various petitions filed by the PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The petitions challenged President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 election.
In a unanimous decision, the tribunal ruled that Abubakar failed to substantiate his claims of vote rigging.
They added that he also couldn’t prove irregularities in the election.
However, the PDP and Abubakar disagreed with the tribunal’s verdict. They vowed to appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court.
According to the communique:
The PDP BoT said it has “confidence in the capacity and courage of the Supreme Court to ultimately and decisively right the wrongs and correct the manifest errors contained in the Judgment of the PEPC in the interest of the unity, stability and corporate existence of our Country”.
According to the party, Nigerians are experiencing “excruciating hardship, worsening insecurity, and a general sense of apprehension and despondency across the country”. This they said is as a result of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s policies.
“The BoT laments that the APC is pushing Nigerians to the wall. We worry that the level of poverty and anger in the polity over the suppressive rule of the APC is capable of snowballing into a serious crisis if not urgently addressed.”
According to the BoT, the country is currently in a “precarious situation” under the APC. They added that Nigerians are looking to the PDP for a solution and direction.
They added that the party is committed to continuing to take the lead in the fight to save the country’s democracy and bring it back to cohesion and economic prosperity.
