The verdict of the presidential election petition tribunal has been rejected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

On Wednesday, the tribunal dismissed the various petitions filed by the PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, against President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 election.

In a unanimous decision, the five justices led by Haruna Tsammani ruled in Tinubu’s favor.

They concluded that Abubakar was unable to substantiate claims of vote rigging and irregularities.

Furthermore, the tribunal determined that Abubakar failed to provide evidence that Tinubu should have been disqualified from contesting due to a $460,000 forfeiture to the US government.

A Chicago court had found that the money was the proceeds of heroin trafficking.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, Debo Ologunagba, PDP spokesperson, declared that the party unequivocally rejects the judgment in its entirety.

The statement reads:

“The judgement is against reason, against the facts and evidence presented in court, against the relevant Electoral Laws, Guidelines and Regulations as well as the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended)”.

“Indeed, the judgment is generous in technicalities and very short in delivering substantial justice in the matter.”

Ologunagba stated that the PDP will conduct a thorough review of the judgment. They will also determine the next course of action within the confines of the law.

PDP urged its supporters to maintain composure and unity during this time. The party also emphasized that efforts are underway to uphold the people’s will.
