One killed, six kidnapped as gunmen attack houses in Taraba

The attackers operated for an extended period across multiple houses without encountering any security intervention.

Suspected kidnappers have struck in the Mile Six Area of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, resulting in one fatality and the abduction of six individuals.

The incident unfolded during the early hours of Sunday. One person was shot and is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The attackers operated for an extended period across multiple houses without encountering any security intervention. Among the injured individuals is a serving police officer who had taken leave from his duty post for health reasons.

Tragically, the deceased is the daughter of this police officer. Additionally, the wife and two other children were abducted from their home, while three more individuals were taken from separate residences in the vicinity.

The kidnappers have reportedly demanded a ransom of N50 million from the victims’ families. Taraba State police spokesperson Abdullahi Usman confirmed the incident and stated that the police have initiated an investigation and rescue operation in the forests and nearby mountains.
