Zamfara: Police confirm killing of 5 officers, two soldiers by bandits

The bandits ambushed the security operatives along Gusau-Funtua road.

Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Shehu Dalinja, has confirmed the tragic killing of five police officers and two soldiers by bandits in Tsafe Local Government Area.

The ambush occurred along the Gusau-Funtua road, where the bandits had blocked the highway, targeting security operatives. “Five police officers and two soldiers were killed while repelling the bandits’ attack on Thursday,” Dalinja stated.

According to the commissioner, the bandits intended to attack Setraco Construction Company, which is working along the highway. Upon receiving intelligence about the planned assault, a joint team of police officers and soldiers was dispatched to the scene. However, the operatives were unaware that the bandits had already laid an ambush.

“The bandits aimed to infiltrate Setraco’s premises to kidnap staff members. When we received the information, we immediately deployed operatives. Unfortunately, they were ambushed,” Dalinja explained.

He added that a fierce gunfight ensued, resulting in the deaths of the security personnel. Despite their losses, the officers had bravely resisted the bandits’ attack.
