The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against several unregistered bakeries in Plateau State for operating without the necessary approval from the agency.
According to a statement released on Friday by Mr. Shaba Mohammed, the Director of the North Central Zone, numerous water-packaging companies have also faced closure due to their failure to adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.
Mohammed further disclosed that several patent medicine stores were shut down for the sale of expired and unregistered medical products. These enforcement actions were conducted as part of NAFDAC’s routine inspection and surveillance efforts across various local government areas, including Dengi (Kanam), Wase, Yelwa Shendam, Shendam, and Namu (Qua’anpan).
The Director emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health by implementing an effective regulatory framework to ensure the production, distribution, and consumption of only high-quality food, drugs, and other regulated products. He reiterated that the agency would not tolerate the manufacture and sale of unauthorized and unregulated products that could pose risks to consumers.
Mohammed urged the public to exercise vigilance and only patronize products that bear the NAFDAC registration seal. Additionally, he encouraged individuals to report any violations, such as the sale of expired or adulterated products, to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Warning against the production and sale of substandard goods, Mohammed stressed that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on offenders. He advised prospective businesses to seek guidance from NAFDAC on the proper registration procedures for their products.
