The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has expressed concerns about the current state of the nation’s judiciary.
He attributed it to the continuous increase in pending cases before various courts.
Justice Ariwoola emphasized that Nigeria consistently ranks among the most litigious countries globally.
He urged Nigerians to adopt a culture of reducing litigation and embracing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
This, he argued, would relieve the courts of unnecessary burdens and prevent the depletion of both human and material resources.
During the inauguration of nine newly appointed Justices of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ariwoola pointed out that various novel crimes being committed in the country have contributed to the steady rise in litigation.
Justice Ariwoola said, “Political cases, especially, are taking a monumental toll on our dockets. Indeed, the times we are in are not pleasant, to say the least.
“No court in the land is spared of this. We are constantly on our toes and the dockets are ever rising in response to the challenges of the time.
