The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano, as the party’s national chairman.

Similarly, Ajibola Basiru, the former senate spokesperson, has been elected as the party’s national secretary.

These officials were elected today during the 12th NEC meeting of the party. The meeting took place at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

Both President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima were in attendance at the meeting.

The NEC meeting also had members of the progressive governors’ forum (PGF) and members of the national assembly present.

However, the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had previously indicated that they would not be attending the meeting due to prior commitments.

Bisi Akande, the party’s first national chairman, was present in the hall.

During his acceptance speech, Ganduje pledged to strengthen internal democracy within the APC.

Earlier, the party had held its national caucus meeting on Wednesday.

In July, Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore resigned as the party’s national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
