Gunmen have kidnapped an undisclosed number of pupils from Apostolic Faith School, along with a driver and a teacher, as they were en route to Emure-Ekiti. The abduction took place on Monday when their school bus was intercepted at Eporo-Ekiti.
The assailants left the school bus behind after the attack, leaving the pupils, teacher, and driver in their custody. This incident follows the recent tragedy in Ekiti state, where two traditional rulers, Oba David Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, and Oba Olatunde Olusola, the Onimojo of Omojola-Ekiti, were ambushed and fatally shot by suspected kidnappers while returning from a meeting in Irele-Ekiti.
Confirming the kidnapping incident, the Ekiti state government issued a statement calling on residents not to lose hope, assuring them that efforts are underway to secure the safe return of the abducted children and their teachers.
“The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has urged the citizens of the state not to despair over Monday’s kidnapping of some school pupils and their teachers in Emure-Ekiti, assuring that efforts are on to get the children and their teachers rescued,” the statement reads.
The state government revealed that security agencies are actively pursuing the abductors with the primary goal of bringing the kidnapped pupils and their teachers back unharmed. Governor Oyebanji emphasized that security measures are being intensified nationwide to eliminate criminal elements from their hideouts.
While urging citizens to remain calm and vigilant, the governor called on the public to collaborate with security agencies by providing relevant information that could aid in the swift resolution of the situation.
