EFCC withdraws ‘money laundering’ charge against Shasore

Olasupo Shasore, the former attorney-general of Lagos State, had been charged with money laundering alongside his company, Middlesex Investments Ltd.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the money laundering charge against Olasupo Shasore, the former attorney-general of Lagos State.

Shasore and his company, Middlesex Investments Ltd, faced a 14-count money laundering charge.

The EFCC, on Thursday, informed the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, directed the agency to withdraw the charge.

Olawale Akoni, Shasore’s counsel, did not oppose the application.

“We will humbly be asking the defendant to be discharged,” Akoni said.

Consequently, the judge granted the application and discharged the defendants.

The AGF’s directive came in a letter titled “Review of All Civil and Criminal Proceedings Between Process and Industrial Developments Ltd (P&ID) and Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN).”

The letter instructed the EFCC to withdraw the charges against Shasore and Middlesex Investments Ltd in light of recent developments in the P&ID case.

Olasupo Shasore, the former attorney-general of Lagos State, had been charged with money laundering alongside his company, Middlesex Investments Ltd.

The charges were connected to the Process and Industrial Developments Ltd (P&ID) case in which Nigeria faced a $9.6 billion judgment in a British court.

The AGF, Lateef Fagbemi, directed the EFCC to withdraw the charges, citing a review in light of recent developments in the P&ID case.

Shasore was accused of compromising the case in favor of P&ID, but a UK court cleared him of corruption allegations, stating that his actions were inconsistent with the corruption theory.
