The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called for an urgent meeting with the heads of key aviation agencies in Nigeria on Monday to address persistent safety issues in the industry.

According to a statement from the ministry, the summoned agencies include the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Federal Airport Authority Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The meeting aims to delve into recent accidents within the sector, and Minister Keyamo is expected to brief the press on the outcome of the discussions, with a focus on preventing future occurrences.

The move comes in the wake of a dramatic incident on Flight NUA 0504 departing from Lagos airport on Sunday. Passengers bound for Abuja found themselves unexpectedly landing in Asaba, as the cabin crew erroneously announced it as Abuja airport. The airline later attributed the diversion to “poor weather.”
