Tinubu names Adekaiyaoja as first female deputy DG of DSS

According to TheCable, Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), proposed Adekaiyaoja for the post through Oluwatosin Ajayi, the DSS's director general.

President Bola Tinubu has accepted Folashade Adekaiyaoja’s appointment as deputy director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Adekaiyaoja, from Kogi state, is the DSS’s first female operative to hold the role.

While the administration has not issued an official announcement, a source informed TheCable that the appointment is part of the president’s efforts to restructure the secret police for greater performance.

The source, who asked not to be identified because he is not permitted to speak about the appointment, said Tinubu is ready to restore professionalism to the service.

He noted that the appointment, the first by any president in Nigerian history, intends to improve career advancement for military members.

According to TheCable, Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), proposed Adekaiyaoja for the post through Oluwatosin Ajayi, the DSS’s director general.

President Tinubu entrusted security agencies in December 2024 with proposing methods to improve service delivery, and Adekaiyaoja’s appointment is viewed as a significant move in that regard.

He also promised to provide the DSS and other security agencies with AI-powered tools to tackle instability.
