In a successful operation, troops from Operation Hadarin Daji have rescued seven female students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, along with three construction workers who were abducted by bandits just last Friday.
A top military source revealed to Channels Television that an additional ten individuals, including three construction workers, managed to escape from their captors during the military rescue operations. The swift response of the land and air components of the Joint Task Force of Operation Hadarin Daji led to the freedom of a total of thirteen students and three construction workers who were engaged in projects at the university.
According to the source, some of the rescued individuals were intercepted by the military, while others found their way back to the university authorities.
Names of rescued students
The names of the 13 rescued students have been disclosed, which include Rukayya Sani Batola (Education Chemistry – 200 Level), Merry Monday (Microbiology – 300 Level), Maryam Salawuddeen (Accounting – 300 Level), and Salamatu Jummai Dahiru (Microbiology – 200 Level).
Other students who were successfully rescued include Fiddausi Abdulazeez (Education Biology – 200 Level), Amamatullahi Asabe Dahiru (Education Chemistry – 200 Level), Ketora Bulus (Education Physics – 100 Level), Felicia Sunday (Computer Science – 200 Level), and Jamila Ahmad (Biochemistry – 200 Level).
Completing the list were Aisha Aminu Ujong (Education Physics – Graduated), Mariya Abdulrahman Usman (English – 400 level), Usaina Abdulrahman (Education English – 100 Level), and Sa’adatu Aminu Abubakar (Education Biology).
The three rescued laborers from GUPRAN Engineering Services Ltd have been identified as Mustapha Abdullahi, Kamalu Shuaibu, and Ishaq Idris.
Earlier reports confirmed that the bandits had split into several groups, with intentions to move some of the kidnapped students to a forest in Niger State, while others were to be taken to the Magami axis. Along these routes, the bandits engaged with military personnel stationed there.
This successful rescue operation serves as a glimmer of hope in the ongoing battle against banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria, as security forces continue their efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and students alike.
