Two individuals who were kidnapped in Zamfara State on August 17, 2023 finally regained their freedom. Among them is a prospective member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and a bus driver, who were abducted along with six other fresh graduates from Akwa Ibom State while en route to the NYSC orientation camp in Sokoto State.

Announcing the long-awaited release, NYSC spokesman Eddy Megwa disclosed that the victims’ rescue was made possible through collaborative efforts between the NYSC and the military.

“The combined efforts of National Youth Service Corps and the military have witnessed further release of another female Prospective Corps Member, including the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State last year,” stated Megwa in a statement released on Monday.

With this development, the total number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) released so far amounts to five, according to the NYSC spokesman. Efforts are actively underway to secure the freedom of the remaining three captives, comprising one female and two males.

Reacting to the news of their release, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, commended the relentless efforts of the security agencies, whose dedication led to the liberation of the victims.
