‘Young artistes have reduced quality of music’ – Korede Bello

“When you start to have young artists blowing up, the quality of the music starts to reduce because they don’t have quality experiences."

Nigerian singer Korede Bello has expressed concerns about a decline in the quality of music produced by the country’s younger artists.

In a recent episode of Hip TV’s Trending, hosted by reality star KimOprah, the 28-year-old singer shared his perspective, attributing the issue to a lack of life experience among young musicians.

Bello argued that the younger an artist is when they achieve stardom, the more likely it is for the quality of their music to suffer.

“When young artists start blowing up, the quality of music tends to decrease because they haven’t had enough life experiences,” Bello said.

“They don’t yet know how to live; they only know that they are living and often focus on living large, which is reflected in their music.”

He further explained that artists like African China, Timaya, and Fela Kuti created music based on their lived realities. “Their songs are a reflection of the things they’ve seen and experienced,” he noted.

Bello concluded by saying that the issue is not entirely the fault of young artists, as “you can only give what you have.”
