Two women were charged on Thursday in a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State with conspiring to forge Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) identity cards.
Chinyere Okeke, 53, and Sarah Akinola, 25, are the defendants.
The defendants, who have no fixed address, are facing a two-count conspiracy and forgery charge.
They, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Rita Momah, told the court that the duo and others who are still at large committed the crimes on March 16 in Lagos State’s Ipaja Baruwa Area.
According to Momah, the women forged the identity card and pretended to be INEC Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH) managers.
The alleged offences, according to the prosecutor, are punishable under Sections 365 (2) (b) and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Adeola Olatubosun, the Chief Magistrate, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount.
She ordered that the sureties produce proof of three years’ tax payments to the Lagos State Government, as well as have their addresses verified by the court.
Olatubosun postponed the case until April 17 for further consideration.
