Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is currently meeting with heads of security agencies in Abuja.
Area council chairpersons are among those in attendance.
There has been an increase in kidnappings in the FCT since December 2023.
According to Olusegun Dada, special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on social media, Wike has directed the area council chairpersons to “enhance their efforts” in addressing the city’s security challenges.
The meeting comes amid rising insecurity and kidnappings in the nation’s capital.
On January 5, gunmen stormed a community in Abuja’s Bwari area council and kidnapped dozens of people, including a family of six sisters.
The abductors allegedly killed Nabeeha, one of the six sisters, on Sunday as a warning to the family for failing to pay the N60 million ransom.
The House of Representatives Committee on FCT asked Wike in November to prioritise the safety of Abuja residents.
