Volleyball leagues serve off Oct 6

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation has announced that the second phase of the 2023 National Division 1 and 2 leagues will begin October 6.

According to Martin Melandi, the Technical Director, NVF, the Division 1 and 2 leagues are scheduled for October 6 and 15 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Melandi said 11 teams will participate in the Division 2 league (men), five teams in the men’s Division 1 league while three teams will feature in women’s Division 1 league.

He said two teams from the National Division 1 are expected to be promoted to the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League after the end of the season.

He said, “I am happy to announce that the second phase of the National Division 1 and 2 Volleyball Leagues will come up in Kaduna State from October 6 to 15. The NVBF had to postpone the league due to the just-concluded 2023 National Youth Games in Asaba.

“A total of 19 teams will participate in the second phase of the 2023 National Division 1 and 2 Volleyball Leagues and two teams from Division 1 will gain promotion into the Premier League as approved by the League Management Committee.

“We are trying to create a robust system that will translate to a win-win situation for all.”

Men’s teams competing in the National Division 1 are Nigeria Correctional Service, Kwara United, UCEM of Enugu, CNS Spikers and G-Rank of Kachia, while Olalomi Royal VC, Imo Spikers and NAF Rockets compete in the women’s category.

Eleven men’s teams battle Division 2 and they are Adamawa Spikers, Ajase Ipo, Imo Spikers, Life Camp, NAF Rockets, Niger Brass, Olalomi Royal, Oluyole Spikers, Sword VC, Safety Spikers and Udogu Spikers.
