The U.S. government has issued an advisory indicating that there are “elevated threats” to major hotels in larger cities in Nigeria.

The advisory, dated November 3, urges U.S. citizens to exercise vigilance at these hotels, be aware of their surroundings, maintain a low profile, and review the travel advisory for Nigeria before checking into any hotels.

It also mentioned that Nigerian security agencies are working to counter these threats.

“The U.S. Government is aware of credible information that there is an elevated threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities,” the notice reads.

“The Nigerian security services are working diligently to counter the threat.

“The U.S. Department of State advises U.S. citizens to consider this information when arranging lodging or visiting major hotels in Nigeria.”

The U.S. advisory not only urged vigilance and caution but also provided the contact details for the U.S. embassy in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos so that U.S. citizens can seek assistance if needed.

Additionally, in October, the U.S. had issued a global advisory advising all its citizens to exercise restraint when traveling to various locations worldwide.

In this advisory, Nigeria was categorized as a “Reconsider Travel” destination, indicating caution for travelers.
