On Monday, a significant number of University of Calabar (Unical) students staged a protest on the university campus, wielding placards to express their displeasure over the recently announced school fee increment by the university management.
The university management, in a publication on Sunday, declared an increase in the school fees, raising it from N75,000 to a range of N109,000 to N160,000 for certain courses. Notably, students in the medical, allied, and physical sciences faced the highest fee adjustments compared to their counterparts in arts and humanities.
The development sparked anger and resentment among students of the Institution, prompting them to take to the campus with placards bearing different inception: “Don’t Force Us Into Prostitution, ‘ VC Never You Force Us Into Yahoo, Yahoo, And Kidnapping To Pay High School fee”; ‘President Tinubu, must not keep mum on this issue.”
The students marched around the campus, chanting songs that resonated with the spirit of a peaceful yet determined demonstration.
The protest serves as a collective expression of the students’ concerns and opposition to the reported fee increment, urging relevant authorities to address the issue promptly.
