Troops neutralise ESN terrorists, recover arms

In a series of successful operations, Nigerian Army troops have dealt with the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) terrorists, clearing hideouts and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition in various locations.

The latest operation took place in the Ihiteukwa Community of Orsu Local Government Area in Imo State, where troops engaged in an intense firefight with IPOB/ESN terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist. Upon securing the area, the troops conducted a thorough search, uncovering three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a Toyota Highlander SUV, a Hilux vehicle, and a locally fabricated single-barrel gun. Additionally, ammunition, including 7.62mm (Special) and 7.62mm (NATO) rounds, were seized, along with a host of other items such as Biafran uniforms, mobile phones, and assorted charms.

Simultaneously, in a separate operation in Akawa Nneato of Umunneochi Local Government Area in Abia State, Nigerian troops engaged terrorists at a suspected crossing point. The firefight forced the terrorists to flee into nearby bushes, leaving behind weapons, including an AK-47 rifle with ammunition and an FN rifle.

Meanwhile, in the Kawara general area of Birnin Gwari Forest in Kaduna State, troops cleared and destroyed several terrorists’ camps. Among the recovered items were motorbikes, a PKT Gun link with ammunition, camouflage gear, and communication equipment.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens. The ongoing operations aim to sanitize troubled areas and restore peace and stability throughout the country.
