Troops nab 8 cultists, 2 kidnappers in Bayelsa, Edo

The Nigerian Army reported on Friday that troops from Operation Still Waters III had apprehended eight cultists in Bayelsa State, as well as two kidnappers in Edo State, successfully rescuing a kidnap victim.

According to a statement by Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the 16 Brigade’s troops executed a raid operation on a suspected cultist camp within the Oloibiri oilfield at Otuabagi community in Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State.

During the operation, the cultist group members were arrested, and some of the items was seized, including firearms, ammunition, communication equipment, and suspected cannabis.

Additionally, on October 18, 2023, troops from the 4 Brigade responded to a distress call regarding a kidnap incident in Obagie community in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo State.

The soldiers successfully rescued Miss Blessing Uwenze, who had been kidnapped by a criminal gang, and arrested two members of the kidnappers.

Firearms, live cartridges, a mobile phone, and fetish items were among the items recovered from the gang.
