The petition of Abdul-Azeez Adediran, the PDP governorship candidate, against the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been dismissed by the Lagos state governorship election tribunal.

In a ruling on Monday, the election petition tribunal dismissed the petition against the disqualification of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) candidates in the election.

The petitioners claimed that the APC failed to comply with a section of the Electoral Act 2022 that states that any political party sponsoring a candidate in the general election must submit the nomination form of such candidate(s) in forms EC9 no later than 180 days before the poll.

The tribunal described the petition as “dead on arrival” and “deserving of a befitting burial.”

The tribunal had also earlier upheld a preliminary objection regarding the inclusion of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the governorship candidate of the LP, in the suit filed by the PDP.
