President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Maiduguri to express his condolences to the government and people of Borno State following the recent flooding tragedy.
On September 10, a flood displaced numerous residents in Maiduguri’s Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin neighbourhoods.
A total of 30 persons have been reported dead as a result of the flood caused by the collapse of the Alau dam.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also visited Maiduguri shortly after the incident, calling it the “most catastrophic” flood in Borno state in three decades.
Shettima claimed the floodwaters “exceeded estimation” during an on-the-spot assessment.
Tinubu had ordered the rapid evacuation of flood victims while he was gone from the nation.
Tinubu departed Abuja for China on August 29, stopping in Dubai before landing in Beijing on September 1.
After six days in China, Tinubu travelled for London, where he met with King Charles III on September 12.
On Sunday, September 15, shortly before midnight, the President arrived in Nigeria and was met at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by some administration officials and security agency leaders.
