President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the Republic of Benin’s 63rd independence anniversary today (Tuesday), according to his spokesman, Dele Alake.
President Patrice Talon of the Republic of Benin extended an invitation to President Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Accompanying President Tinubu on this one-day visit will be six governors: Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara); Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Bago (Niger).
The meeting between President Tinubu and President Talon was initiated during their interactions at various summits, including the New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France, and the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Guinea-Bissau. The Benin Republic President invited President Tinubu to the independence anniversary during their meeting at the State House, Abuja.
During their discussions, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of reviewing and strengthening cultural, trade, and economic relations between their nations, including joint border patrols by Customs and harmonizing regulations on the frontlines.
Notably, last week, President Talon visited Aso Rock and later traveled to Niger’s capital, Niamey, to address a hostage situation involving President Mohamed Bazoum.
This marks the second visit of President Talon to Aso Rock under the Tinubu administration, having previously visited on July 18 with Niger’s Bazoum and Guinea-Bissau’s Umaro Sissoco Embalo.
