President Bola Tinubu will attend John Mahama‘s inauguration as Ghana’s president on Tuesday.
This will be Mahama’s second inauguration as president of the Gold Coast republic. He previously headed Ghana from 2012 until 2017.
According to a statement published on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, special assistant to the president for media and strategy, Tinubu would leave Abuja on Monday for Accra, Ghana’s capital, to attend Mahama’s inauguration on January 7.
Onanuga stated that the trip was at the president-elect’s invitation.
Shortly after his re-election in December, Mahama paid Tinubu a visit at the State House in Abuja.
Prior to the visit, Tinubu congratulated Ghana’s newly elected president on his victory in the general election.
Mahama won the elections with 56.55 percent of the vote, defeating the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) nominee, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 41.6%.
Bawumia accepted defeat prior to the final results being released.
Tinubu praised Bawumia’s exceptional actions during the 66th ordinary session of the Economic Community of West African Countries‘ (ECOWAS) authority of presidents of state and governments.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu would attend the ceremony alongside other African presidents in his capacity as ECOWAS chairman.
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and other top government officials will accompany the president on his tour.
