President Bola Tinubu has signed the measures creating the south-east and north-west development commissions into law.
Benjamin Kalu, Abia state’s deputy speaker for the Bende federal seat, supported the southeast bill.
The Senate and House of Representatives passed the law, which was delivered to the president for assent in June.
The commission will receive cash to carry out projects in the geopolitical zone.
The monies will also be used to address environmental concerns such as erosion, road reconstruction, and rehabilitation in Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, and Anambra.
Kalu, in a statement published by his principal press secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, thanked the president for signing the bill into law.
The deputy speaker stated that the committee will “rehabilitate Igbo land” and promote community harmony.
Tinubu also signed the measure creating the North West Development Commission into law.
Jibrin Barau, deputy senate president and sponsor of the bill, said the signing of the proposed legislation is a “testament” to Tinubu’s “commitment to addressing the challenges facing the north-west geopolitical zone and indeed all parts of the country”.
