Tinubu okays ₦10b take-off grant for Federal University of Education Pankshin

The President has requested that the grant be released to the University immediately through the Tetfund for it to begin operations effectively.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorised a ₦10 billion take-off grant for the newly upgraded Federal College of Education Pankshin, now known as Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) in Plateau state.

Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, a member of the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, announced this at the University’s official unveiling by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on the spot evaluation in Pankshin LGA, Plateau state.

The lawmaker, who was the sole sponsor of the bill to raise FCE Pankshin to the university level, stated that he felt pleased because the bill was signed by former President Muhammadu Buhari and minuted to the former Minister, but it was kept under wraps.

According to him:

“Buhari approved the bill overriding the Ministry of Education to commence immediately, but it became a big problem giving room for some people in social media castigating Gagdi to have lied. Today, I am being exonerated.

“I went and appealed to President Tinubu that, every New University always have a problem with getting releases from Tetfund and Mr. President approved over ten billion take-off grants for the Federal University of Education Pankshin.”

He stated that the President has requested that the grant be released to the University immediately through the Tetfund for it to begin operations effectively.

The legislator went on to clarify that the Federal Government has also approved the recruitment of over 161 people to fill the university’s shortfall, and he has given his consent to the Chairman of the Governing Board.
