President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Zacch Adedeji as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)’s new acting executive chairman.

Tinubu also ordered Muhammad Nami, the current FIRS chairman, to take three months of pre-retirement leave, as provided by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, effective immediately.

According to Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, the leave would eventually lead to Nami’s retirement from service on December 8, 2023.

According to Ngelale, Adedeji’s appointment is effective immediately, per the president’s directives.

“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is hereby appointed in acting capacity for a 90-day period before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for a term of four (4) years in the first instance,” the statement reads.

“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is a first-class graduate in accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University. He most recently served the nation as the special adviser to the president on revenue.”

Adedeji was the commissioner of finance in Oyo state prior to his appointment as special adviser.

He was also the National Sugar Development Council’s (NSDC) executive secretary and chief executive officer (CEO).
