President Bola Tinubu is in a meeting with Omar Touray, ECOWAS president, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of state.
The meeting is being held at the presidential villa.
They are discussing the ongoing political instability in Niger Republic.
Also present at the meeting is Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser, at the meeting.
The gathering aims to address the current situation and seek potential solutions to the turmoil in Niger Republic.
An ECOWAS delegation, led by Abdulsalami, had recently travelled to Niamey for negotiations.
Following discussions with Ali Lamine Zeine, Niger’s prime minister, and Bazoum, Abdulsalami mentioned that he would provide Tinubu, the ECOWAS chairperson, with a brief on the outcome of the discussions.
Niger’s coup leader, Abdourahamane Tiani, had announced a plan for the country to transition back to civilian rule within three years.
But ECOWAS has rejected this proposal, citing their unwillingness to accept prolonged transition periods in the region.
