President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate release of 42,000 metric tonnes of grains from the National Reserve. This decision comes amidst a backdrop of soaring food inflation that has left many Nigerians grappling with the harsh realities of food insecurity in recent months.

Punch reports that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the last leg of a series of three meetings of the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention at the Aso Rock Villa on Thursday.

The announcement, made earlier today, underscores the federal government’s commitment to addressing the pressing issue of food scarcity and the high inflation rate in Nigeria. However, sustained efforts are required to address the underlying causes of food scarcity and ensure long-term food sustainability for all Nigerians.
