The Minister of Works, has announced that the Third Mainland Bridge, partially closed to traffic, will be fully reopened on Thursday, April 4. This decision aims to alleviate the inconvenience faced by road users.
Umahi made the announcement during an inspection of ongoing projects in Lagos, alongside members of the senate and house committees on works. He stated, “In the next seven days, the bridge will be opened to ease traffic.”
Additionally, Umahi revealed that the rehabilitated road will be officially commissioned by President Bola Tinubu during the inauguration of the coastal road. The 11.8-kilometre dual-lane project, awarded to CCECCC-China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation at a cost of N21 billion, has already seen 30 percent of the cost paid.
However, the minister highlighted additional expenses such as asphalt, solar light, and CCTV installation, which contributed to the project’s overall cost.
In a statement on Saturday, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos, confirmed the news, stating, “Dear Lagos residents, We’re pleased to share that the Third Mainland Bridge will resume full operations on April 4, 2024, following extensive repairs.”
“We thank you for your cooperation and patience,” he added.
The reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge will undoubtedly bring relief to commuters and improve the flow of traffic in Lagos.
