The Supreme Court has reserved the judgement on an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru, also known as Binani, to challenge the outcome of Adamawa State’s governorship election on March 18.
Following the adoption of all parties’ final briefs of argument, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, adjourned the case for judgment.
Specifically, the appellants, represented by Chief Akinolu Olujimi (SAN), asked the court to remove Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri from office.
They petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the concurrent verdicts of the Court of Appeal and the Adamawa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which upheld Fintiri’s re-election.
Binani maintained that she received the majority of valid votes cast in the election and was duly declared the winner by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner or REC.
The appellate court dismissed Senator Dahiru’s appeal on December 18, 2023, while awarding her N1 million in costs.
While affirming Governor Fintiri’s election as the Peoples Democratic Party‘s (PDP) candidate, the appellate court found Senator Dahiru’s appeal vague.
