The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, seeking to overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision nullifying his election. The five-member panel, led by Justice John Okoro, reserved judgement following arguments presented by both parties.

Governor Mutfwang, represented by counsel Kanu Agabi, urged the court to uphold the Tribunal’s judgement and overturn the appellate court’s decision. Agabi contended that the respondents, Nentawe Goshwe and the All Progressives Congress (APC), lacked the right to question the party’s internal processes for electing state executives.

According to Agabi, the respondents cannot simultaneously claim that the governor did not secure the required lawful votes while asserting that the election was invalid.

In response, the APC and its candidate argued that Mutfwang’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had violated a valid court order. The order mandated the PDP to conduct congress in 17 local governments, but they allegedly undertook only the process in five local governments before proceeding with the March governorship election.
