Supreme court affirms Bala Mohammed’s election as Bauchi governor

The apex court affirmed the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal and dismissed the appeal filed by Sadique Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress, deeming it lacking in merit.

The Supreme Court has affirmed the election victory of Bala Mohammed from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Bauchi State.

The apex court affirmed the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal and dismissed the appeal filed by Sadique Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress, deeming it lacking in merit.

The Court of Appeal had, in November, validated Governor Bala Mohammed’s triumph in the March 18 governorship election, supporting the earlier ruling by the tribunal that upheld Mohammed’s victory.

During the Court of Appeal judgment, the three-member panel of justices reached a unanimous decision, with no costs awarded as the court determined that each party should bear its own expenses.

Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa, the presiding judge, delivered the judgment in the sequence of the appellant’s pleas. The appellant’s first plea, requesting the nullification of the election due to alleged improper filling of forms and booklets, was dismissed by the court, citing a lack of substantiating evidence.
