Student loan to begin January

Sununu added that the policy would also save the country's scarce foreign exchange.

Yusuf Sununu, minister of state for education, confirmed that the January start date for the student loan scheme remained in place.

Sununu added that a website is being created for this purpose.

He stated that monetary provisions for student loans have already been included in the 2024 budget.

He said:

“January is a reality for the commencement of the student loan scheme in Nigeria. Already, the website is almost done.”

“Application for beneficiaries will be online,criteria for students to get admission is that you must be a Nigerian and find yourself in a public school and the application is also online which will be processed timely and you can access your loan within 30 days.

“Funds have been set aside in the 2024 appropriation act and also the supplementary budget for 2023.”

Sununu also revealed that the council approved the establishment of foreign institution campuses in the country to increase Nigerian enrollment and promote research among higher education institutions around the world.

He stated that a guideline has been established to ensure the standardisation of training on local campuses.
