Kebbi State Government has pledged its support for the victims affected by a severe rainstorm in the state.
The storm resulted in the destruction of over 100 houses in Zauro town, Birnin Kebbi local Government Area.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri, conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Governor during a visit to the victims.
He assured the affected individuals that the government would promptly provide relief measures to alleviate their suffering.
‘I want to assure you that the Government would provide relief assistance to the victims.
‘It has been the tradition of the administration of Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu to always render assistance to victims of calamity.
‘We are going to sit immediately with SEMA and HYPPADEC and see what we can do to the victims’, he assured.
The Special Adviser on Special Duties to the governor, an indigene of Zauro, Alhaji Shafi’u Zauro, informed reporters that the Governor has directed immediate mobilization of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant authorities to assess and assist the affected.
SEMA’s Executive Director, Engr. Abbas Rabi’u Kamba, stated that they have documented the affected and assessed the damage.
“More than one hundred houses were destroyed by the rainstorm, and residents were advised to plant trees for windstorm mitigation.
“The Hydro Power Producing Development Areas Commission (HYPPADEC) would collaborate with SEMA to support the victims.
Alhaji Aliyu Tsoho Zauro, one of the victims, described the destruction caused by strong winds and loud thunder.
