The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has announced that the sit-at-home order in the South-East region of Nigeria has ended. He made this statement during the COAS combined second and third-quarter conference in Abuja.
General Lagbaja attributed the end of the sit-at-home order to the intensified efforts of troops working in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. He commended the troops for their dedication in addressing the issue.
“We have equally heightened our efforts in containing criminalities perpetrated in the South-East Region by the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network. Through Operation Udoka, our troops have, in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, put an end to the infamous sit-at-home order that has almost crippled socio-economic activities in the Region,” said General Lagbaja.
This sit-at-home order had been affecting the daily lives and businesses of law-abiding citizens in the region. However, due to the coordinated efforts of the Nigerian Army and other stakeholders, normalcy has returned, and people can now go about their daily activities without fear.
General Lagbaja also highlighted the country’s successful efforts to combat insurgency, particularly against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups. He mentioned that commercial activities have resumed in troubled states, signifying a positive change in the security situation.
Moreover, the Nigerian Army has taken additional measures to enhance security nationwide by establishing Special Forces units. These units are designed to address various security challenges and ensure the safety of citizens.
The announcement by the Chief of Army Staff reflects the ongoing efforts to improve security and stability in Nigeria, particularly in regions affected by insurgency and civil disturbances.
