Several passengers injured as two BRT buses collide in Lagos

The injured passengers were quickly taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Several passengers were injured in a late-night collision between two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos on Tuesday.

The accident occurred within the BRT lane on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, near Danco Filling Station, according to a post on X by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The injured passengers were quickly taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) issued a statement, signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Nosa Okunbor, explaining that the incident happened when a BRT bus heading towards Iyana Ipaja attempted to avoid hitting a commercial motorcyclist carrying passengers illegally on the BRT corridor. In the process, it collided with an oncoming BRT bus.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

“However, passengers from both buses sustained varying degrees of injuries and were all taken to the nearest hospital before the Agency’s Response Team arrived,” Okunbor said.

He added that two tow trucks were deployed to remove the damaged BRT buses from the road.
