Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a legislator representing Kogi Central, has been suspended by the Senate for six months.
The verdict came after the report was adopted by the committee on ethics, privileges, and public petitions.
The committee, led by Neda Imaseun, delivered the panel’s report in plenary on Thursday.
Natasha refused to appear before the committee on Wednesday to answer questions about her February fight with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The Senate endorsed the committee’s recommendation that Natasha be suspended from all legislative activity, effective immediately.
The red chamber also agreed that her office should be locked and that she turn over all senate property in her possession to the clerk of the national assembly for the length of the suspension.
The upper legislative chamber determined that neither the senator nor her staff could be seen on the national assembly grounds during the suspension time.
The committee recommended that Natasha’s salary, allowances, and those of her legislative assistants be suspended, as well as the removal of all security detail for the period of the suspension.
However, Senator Orji Kalu of Abia North proposed an amendment stating that the pay of Natasha’s legislative assistants should not be suspended. The prayer was adopted.
The senate also passed an amendment that the six-month suspension can be reviewed if the senator tenders a public apology to the red chamber.
