Sylvester Nwakuche’s nomination as Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has been confirmed by the Senate.

The decision came following the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Interior, chaired by Adams Oshiomhole, senator for Edo North, who proposed Nwakuche’s confirmation at Tuesday’s plenary.

Titus Zam, senator for Benue’s north-west, seconded the proposal.

Presenting the committee’s findings, Oshimohole stated that the nominee was “thoroughly” scrutinised on March 12.

“The committee found the nominee as one with an impeccable character, full of exposure, experience, intellect, energy, drive and worthy of the nomination,” Oshiomhole said.

“The man is not only qualified in terms of academic qualification, but he has also been involved in several command positions and has benefitted from training and retraining.

“The committee found the nominee suitable for the position of controller-general. No petition or incriminating report was received against the nominee”.

With no opposition, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the matter to a voice vote, which passed unanimously.

Akpabio expressed confidence that the Senate’s confirmation will inspire him to serve Nigeria with fresh zeal.

“I hope that this confirmation by the Senate will spur him to continue to do his best in service of our fatherland,” Akpabio said.

“He is coming at a difficult time when we have jail breaks here and there. So, to whom much is given, much is expected”.
