The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointments of the recently announced service chiefs.
Their appointments were previously announced by President Bola Tinubu.
After conducting a closed session screening that lasted over an hour, the upper legislative chamber approved the nominees.
The confirmed service chiefs are Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, and Hassan Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
President Tinubu had previously written to the National Assembly, seeking confirmation based on the provisions of the Armed Forces Act.
During the screening, the service chiefs discussed their careers, the ongoing security challenges faced by the country, and their plans to address them.
Lagbaja emphasized the importance of collaboration among the service chiefs to ensure the security of the nation.
“I have identified some pillars on which my leadership will rest and that include sound leadership. I have identified and will work with my fellow service chiefs and other security agencies,” he said.
Chief of Naval Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla, expressed his commitment to serving diligently in his new role, highlighting his previous experience in various capacities.
He assured that he understood the challenges faced by the navy and would give his best to overcome them.
