Aminu Maida has been confirmed as the substantive executive vice-chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) by the Senate.
After reviewing a report from its communications committee, the upper legislative chamber confirmed Maida on Thursday.
Maida had appeared before the screening committee following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu in October.
At the time, the president also appointed Tola Odeyemi as Postmaster General of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and Vincent Olatunji as the Director-General of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
While presenting his report to his colleagues, Bilbis Ikra, senator for Zamfara Central and chairman of the communications committee, stated that Maida meets the qualifications for the office for which he has been nominated.
Ikra stated that there was no petition filed against Maida’s nomination and that he had passed all relevant security checks.
Maida was then recommended for confirmation by the Zamfara senator.
Maida was confirmed as NCC’s executive vice-chairman after Senate President Godswill Akpabio put his nomination to a voice vote.
