Senate commences screening of Cardoso, CBN Deputy Governor Nominees

The screening is being conducted in the "committee of the whole" since the Senate's standing committees have not yet been inaugurated.

Olayemi Cardoso

The Senate has initiated the screening process for Olayemi Cardoso for the role of substantive governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Additionally, four deputy governor nominees for the CBN are also being screened.

These deputy governor nominees include:

Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello.

The Senate commenced this process after a motion to that effect was moved by Opeyemi Bamidele, the majority leader of the Senate.

All these nominees have been serving in acting capacities since the resignations of the former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, and his deputy governors.

The screening is being conducted in the “committee of the whole” since the Senate’s standing committees have not yet been inaugurated.

The Senate resumed plenary after an eight-week recess.
