The Supreme Court is scheduled to deliver judgment on Thursday, regarding the appeals seeking to annul President Bola Tinubu’s election.
Festus Akande, the spokesperson for the apex court, verified this information to TheCable.
Peter Obi’s appeal includes contentions that Tinubu failed to secure 25 per cent of the votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This, he claimed is a requirement for winning the election.
Obi also claims that Tinubu’s forfeiture of $460,000 in the US disqualifies him from running for president.
Both candidates have also challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) failure to transmit election results electronically.
Chris Uche, counsel to Abubakar and the PDP, submitted that the Supreme Court should consider the “weighty, grave, and constitutional” issue of Tinubu’s academic records being fraught with discrepancies and forgeries as fresh evidence against President Tinubu.
He emphasized that the Supreme Court has a duty to examine the new evidence and make a decision without relying on technicalities.
After a hearing on Monday, the Supreme Court reserved judgment in both appeals.
