In a brazen attack on Friday, assailants stormed a concert hall in Moscow, killing over 60 people, injuring more than 100, and setting fire to the venue.
AP News reports that the incident occurred just days after President Vladimir Putin’s electoral victory. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility, stating their branch in Afghanistan planned the attack. U.S. intelligence agencies had shared this information with Russian officials.
The Kremlin informed Putin minutes after the assailants entered Crocus City Hall. The attack, deemed terrorism, left the venue ablaze with a collapsing roof. Authorities reported over 60 fatalities and 145 injuries, with concerns of more victims trapped in the blaze.
